We often distinguish the God of the Old Testament from the God of the New Testament. But we’re about to see how the Creator’s wisdom transcends time: In Proverbs, we read about practical wisdom for relationships, for administration, for craftsmanship, and more. Fast forward, past the stories of Jesus to James. James, the brother of Jesus and head of the church in Jerusalem, gives us a book of practical wisdom written for the early church. Spoiler alert: it sounds a lot like Jesus and a lot like Proverbs too. James tells us that following Jesus isn’t just about belonging, claiming, or believing. Following Jesus is about embodying and doing. So, take this opportunity to read through James with us and bring your questions to church. We’re all in this moment of disorientation together. A book written from the margins to the margins, James, challenges us to be discomforted and transformed this Lent.
