Metaphors for God

In this summer series on Metaphors for God, we will use scriptural metaphors to overlap things we know viscerally (shepherds, bread, hens, love, vines, clouds) with something/one we are trying to know better: God. Metaphors (to use another metaphor) are like hinges on a window that give us access to God. The visceral, concrete things in creation that we can point to or speak about are like windows into God. These hinges open up familiar windows on to the unknowable, helping us to “see” the unseeable, i.e. God. Some of these metaphors may have gotten rusty or are stuck. One hope in this series is to oil some of these rusty or stuck hinges in order to see God more clearly.
