Our Shared Beliefs
Blue

Belief shapes practice.                Practice shapes belief.

The Triune God is our centre, through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, which animates our shared life.

Our Staff and Lead Teams share these beliefs:

  • God’s generous love is freely available to all; we aim to remove barriers to that love.
  • We follow the Spirit, joining God’s ongoing work in every aspect of life.
  • The way of Jesus brings good news, inspiring transformation.
  • Healing regenerates shalom and affirms the Creator’s original goodness in us, our city, and all creation.
  • Community grows as we become the body of Christ, gathering around Jesus’ open table to experience forgiveness and reconciliation.
  • Imagination, inspired by the Spirit, enables us to contextualize the gospel creatively in our time and place.
  • The Spirit of Christ speaks through Scripture; we commit to interpreting its original context, historical reception, and present meaning.
  • We are part of the historic global Christian church and affirm the Apostles’ and Nicene Creed; we claim the church’s history–both good and bad–and take seriously our role in offering healing and hope.
  • We affirm the church’s unity in diversity, committing to reconciliation and the messiness of this work.

Practices:

  • We listen – to God, to each other, and to our neighbourhood, through prayer, scripture, dialogue, and contemplative practices.
  • We create – through play, experimentation, and new initiatives, valuing diverse ways of knowing.
  • We collaborate – through regular, in-person contact, inclusive decision-making, feedback, and shared responsibility.
  • We care – with an awareness of trauma, reframing challenges with hope, and leaning on trusted networks of professional care.
  • We make mistakes – mistakes and conflict are opportunities for growth and transformation; composting encourages new growth.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God,
begotten of the Father before all worlds;
God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God;
begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father,
by whom all things were made.
Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven,
and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary,
and was made man;
and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered and was buried;
and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures;
and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father;
and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead;
whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life;
who proceeds from the Father and the Son;
who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified;
who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins;
and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Amen.
