Groups are where we practice the way of Jesus together!
[NOTE: Groups are wrapping up for the summer and will relaunch in September.]
Groups are an integral part of our church life. They are a level of community we surrender into. In groups we intentionally set aside our consumerism (what I want and what is convenient for me) for what God wants, and the needs of others. There are four types of groups at Artisan: Group Spiritual Direction, Neighbourhood Groups, Table Groups and Unique Groups.
We use a software called Church Center to organize our groups.
Download the app here and start browsing our various group offerings this season. Or, visit the groups page.
Group Spiritual Direction
Group Spiritual Direction (GSD) is designed to help participants open to God in all of life through ongoing, attentive witness to their own story as well as those of their fellow group members. GSD is an ancient practice, but still new to our community, and quite different than our other Group offerings. So we want to make very sure you know what you’re signing up for. If you are curious or interested in GSD, before we can place you in a group you must have attended BOTH a Preview Lunch and an Experience GSD Night.
Neighbourhood Groups
Neighbourhood Groups are micro communities that meet in homes around the city. They gather for friendship and to practice the way of Jesus together, moving in these four directions: Upward, Inward, Outward and Withward.
- UPWARD – opening to God through shared spiritual practices
- INWARD – being willing to know and be known in our stories
- OUTWARD – embodying the shalom of Christ through acts that produce justice and equity beyond our church community
- WITHWARD – celebrating with one another through hospitality and parties
Table Groups
Table Groups are seasonal groups that gather for connection and discussion around a specific theme or topic. They are typically offered 1-2 times a year, and are anywhere between three and eight weeks in length. Unless otherwise indicated, Table Groups are ‘standalone’ experiences, meaning you can join any group you wish without having to attend a prior one.
Unique Groups
These mid-week gatherings are led and initiated by members of our community. They include things like Prayer Hour, Book Club, Songwriting Group and Dads & Brews.
Sunday Teams are a vital part of making Sunday gatherings work. Without people who are generous with their time and talent, these gatherings would not be possible.
SIGN UP HERE
Coffee Team
The Coffee Team is responsible for helping set up and brew our delicious Prototype Coffee. As part of the Coffee Team you are also part of the Sunday morning Welcome Team and will often be the first point of contact for someone who is new to Artisan.
Kids Team
The Kids Team is responsible for leading and facilitating kids classes at our Sunday gatherings. Classes range from ages 1 to grade 5. The Teacher role includes leading the class in creative play, art, and the teaching curriculum. The Helper role includes assisting the Teacher and being available to support the kids in all of their learning and discovery.
Set Up/Tear Down Team
The Set Up and Tear Down Team is the only team that gets to do a mini workout before or after the gathering. Sign up for either the Set Up or Tear Down crew. (The Set Up crew arrives at 8:30am and usually finishes at 9:30am. The Tear Down crew starts immediately following the gathering for 30-45 minutes.)
Tech Team
The Tech Team is responsible for setting up and running all of our audio/visual needs at our Sunday gatherings. You can sign up to run sound or operate slides. If you don’t have any previous training or experience, no worries! We can pair you with a seasoned veteran to show you the ropes.
Welcome Team
The Welcome Team is often the first hello for people coming to a Sunday gathering. This team consists of Ushers, Info Table Attendants and Neighbourhood Team Greeters.
Worship Team
The Worship Team is responsible for leading and facilitating worship on Sunday mornings and consists of the Worship Band, Communion Servers, Scripture Readers and Prayers of the People Readers.
